Wowee Zonk News Report March 2011

Our Guardian and Publisher Koyama Press is sending us down to Buffalo this coming weekend for the Buffalo Small Press Book Fair. We've got plenty of zines left over from the barrage of fairs and fesitvals we attended late last year and plenty of copies of our flagship book, Wowee Zonk. We'll have copies of the Second and Third issue and we might even have 1 or 2 copies of the fabled first issue to get rid of.

Wowee Zonk Member Chris Kuzma has a new comic book called COMPLEX. Chris was born in the future and is growing backwards into our time. Subsequently our antiquated computers and "blog" systems are foreign to him and he couldn't post a sales button properly on this blog. Please go to his future-blog and purchase it there.

Complex is wonderfully drawn and full of whimsy and weird blobs. It's about the operation of a society that's contained in one enormous psychedelic building. Chris focuses on one lowly resident who is fed up with his lot in life and is seeking satisfaction.

Our Friend, colleague and mentor, Fiona Smyth also released her debut graphic novel this past week.
The Never Weres, Published by Annick Press is a really fantastic GN aimed at younger readers, but can be enjoyed by kids and adults alike. Fiona's pages are expertly composed and are rich with bold, lively artwork that is challenging but totally accessible and readable.  I was blown away by the beautifiul, sprawling ink-washed double page spreads.

As well as editing Wowee Zonk with Kuzma and I, Ginette also co-edits an international Bi-lingual anthology with Ines Estrada of Mexico entitled GANG BANG BONG. Ginette just finished a beautiful painting for the front and back cover of the latest issue. Debuting at The Toronto Comic Arts Festival this coming May.

Purdy, Huh? More TCAF news probably coming soon. Hopefully.
